August – Asset Spotlight

Birmingham’s Uptown Entertainment District, located near the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center (BJCC), hosted its grand opening celebration, “Eat Up: A Taste of Uptown,” on July 31. Featuring tastings from each of Uptown’s seven restaurants, Cantina Laredo, Bottle & Bone, Todd English P.U.B., Texas de Brazil, Octane Coffee Bar, The Southern and Mugshots, the event’s street festival atmosphere also included entertainment from three of Muscle Shoals’ Single Lock Records recording artists: Belle Adair, The Bear and Alabama Music Hall of Fame Inductee, Donnie Fritts.

An integrated marketing approach was used to engage nearby foodies and music lovers. The event drew a diverse crowd of millennials hungry for unique food concepts and entertainment options in downtown Birmingham.  A Taste of Uptown increased awareness and generated traffic to participating restaurants while creating good will within the community by donating all event proceeds to Jones Valley Teaching Farm, a nonprofit urban farm in downtown Birmingham that focuses on improving school achievement and growing a healthier generation.
